Top: The Penokee Hills, target of the 22-mile mountaintop removal open pit iron ore mine at the headwaters of the Bad River; Bottom: a mine in northern Minnesota showing the same area of devastation mining has caused there.
Exploratory drilling into the largest deposit of iron ore in North America could begin as soon as Saturday in northern Wisconsin’s Penokee Range.
Though GTAC spokesperson Bob Seitz says he does not expect protests, the LCO Harvest Camp is located near to the drill sites. After being lied to on so many occasions by the Wisconsin fascists and the mining company, we will not believe what they claim they have removed from the hills. Unless there is oversight by outside parties, which there won’t be, their drilling may not coincide with what they actually find.
In other words, we are prepared for them to present false information, as they have all along the process.
This is reason enough to protest their drilling.
Join us at Harvest Camp. Bring a tent and get ready to stand strong to protect the water.
